I’m just a casual Halo fan but the more “Reach” trailers I watch, the more excited I get about its impending release on September 14th.
Halo: Reach Legendary Edition box set… DO WANT!
I don’t know if I really want to swallow the $150 (Cdn) price tag. I purchased the Halo 3 Legendary Edition on release day. Then weeks later, found it shelf warming at the local big box electronics store and drastically priced to clear.
I don’t believe this Reach set will be shelf-warming in stores. Arguably, the statuette of Noble team is a better collectible item in terms of general appeal than the quarter scale Mjolnir Mark VI helmet that was included in the Halo 3 Legendary set— derisively nicknamed “the cat helmet” by some reviewers.
150 smackers may not be a lot of money to some people but that’s a lot for a video game boxed set any way you slice it.
$150 is what it would take to buy the complete set of the upcoming Play Arts Kai Noble team figures from Square Enix. And those figures will be 9-inches tall, poseable and far less fragile than that statuette to boot.
I suppose I’ll hold off on the Reach Legendary set then…
Now this is cool! The Bioshock franchise goes from deep beneath the sea to the sunny skies above in Irrational Games’ upcoming Bioshock: Infinite title.
Bioshock: Infinite will actually be a stand-alone title outside of the original Bioshock story arc but it will borrow from the original franchise in that it’s also set in a utopia-gone-wrong but will put its own spin on things. The utopia is a massive airborne metropolis called Columbia and Bioshock: Infinite will have its own variation of weapons and enemy designs and plasmid abilities.
The player takes on the role of disgraced detective Booker Dewitt, charged with finding a missing woman named Elizabeth and return her safely. But there’s far more to this “missing persons” case than meets the eye!
I choked on Blizzard’s electronic leash the other day when I tried to play my single player campaign in Starcraft 2 and I couldn’t because Battle.net was down…
Now, before you go rolling your eyes and saying, “Everyone knows that!”, keep in mind that I’m a casual player, I haven’t been reading up on anything Starcraft 2 related prior to its big release nor played the beta so this came as a pleasant surprise to me.
I know that Marines can still use stimpacks while inside bunkers but later found out that Medics who’ve been put inside bunkers will still perform their respective automatic healing abilities.
So if you’ve got a Medic inside a bunker with other Marine units and you use their stimpacks (speeds up attack/movement rate but causes damage to users), she’ll heal them automatically.
When you consider this and bunker upgrades like +150 life, +1 range and 6-slot capacity, that adds even more value to them as static defense measures.
Mixing up bunker crew composition is a good idea too. For instance, a Marauder, 3 Marines and a Medic is a good mix:
Marauder does more damage but can slow enemies if you have the warp field generating grenade upgrade; especially good against melee attackers. Slows them down, exposing them to ranged fire for a longer period of time before they can actually reach the bunker.
Marines can be stimmed as needed to increase their damage output when attackers arrive. If attackers are slowed by the Marauder’s grenade upgrade, the stimmed Marines are given more time to whittle down the attackers’ health with their increased attack rate. Marines can fire on air units as well, which the Marauder cannot.
Medic inside bunker can heal the stimmed Marines, which allows repeated stimpack use. If the bunker is destroyed, you will have a small unit of Marines and a Marauder with a Medic left over to fight on, with the Medic giving them added longevity.
Throw in Siege Tank support, a Goliath and/or Missile Towers, and an SCV with upgraded repair rate, your bunker manned with a mixed crew will form a very effective defense line.
